Increasing supplier transparency while driving down costs 
In 2008, Kevin Brown, CPO of Dell, was faced with several challenges – ambitious savings goals, supplier concern on the cost impact of Dell’s processes, expanding product portfolios, and a need to provide development teams with better cost information.

In the past five years, AkzoNobel has centralised its efforts by focusing on fewer products, namely decorative paints, performance coatings and specialty chemicals. In January 2007, Ton Geurts became the first CPO of AkzoNobel. His mission was to create a sustainable sourcing organisation that would contribute to the bottom line.

The role of a CPO has moved beyond simply delivering cost reductions and supplier rationalisation to being an integral part of how an organisation delivers value to its customers and shareholders.
