Adidas not planning to hot-foot out of Indonesia

German footwear giant Adidas has pledged to maintain its sourcing levels from Indonesia – despite dumping a major local supplier from the country.

The company’s relationship with PT Prima Inreksa Industries was terminated after it failed to meet orders from Adidas due to financial difficulties.

Adidas ceased contracts with two other Indonesian suppliers in 2006, leaving some 18,000 people out of a job, but Horst Stapf, the group’s head of footwear sourcing, said that the company would continue to operate in the country.

"Indonesia remains a key sourcing country for the Adidas Group," he said in a statement.
