Dell procurement chief retires

Dell’s buying operation has been rocked by the resignation of Martin Garvin, the company’s vice president for procurement.

According to the Associated Press, Garvin, who managed the company’s supplier relationships and headed up Dell’s procurement efforts, has decided to retire after 10 years with the company.

The news comes as Dell embarks on a major restructuring exercise.

The company is looking to hit back at Hewlett Packard who recently usurped Dell as the leading global PC seller.

Last year, Dell announced plans to cut 8,800 jobs, or ten per cent of its workforce, as part of a drive to cut costs by three to four billion dollars.
