BT signals Indian intentions with opening of global operations centre
A global operations centre providing support to BT’s procurement function has been opened in the Indian city of Gurgaon.
The centre will employ up to 300 people and is seen as a crucial element of BT’s global sourcing strategy.
BT has already established similar set-ups in Hungary, Brazil and China, and the opening in Gurgaon is an indication of the company’s increasing presence in India, where it accounts for two per cent of the country’s $50 billion IT and BPO exports.
“India is a critical market for our global growth strategy,” said Ben Verwaayen, CEO, BT Group. “It has a highly skilled workforce, supportive government, and global capabilities. Only companies who recognise and harvest talent on a global basis will achieve a new level of competitive advantage.
"BT has always sought to find the best talent wherever in the world it may be. We have been working successfully in India for many years with partners who handle some of our non-core but mission critical activities".
