Companies still failing to address emission targets

Nearly three-quarters of the UK’s largest companies do not have greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in place, a new study has found.

The research, carried out by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), found that although around a half of the firms involved in the study now reported their annual greenhouse gas emissions, there was still a lack of coordination when it came to reduction targets.

"The ability and willingness of the FTSE 350 responding companies to monitor activities relating to climate change reflect its inexorable rise from debate at the fringes of society to the boardroom agenda," said the CDP's findings.

The report included emissions created by the burning of fossil fuels, those generated by electricity bought or produced, and those relating to companies overall supply chains.
