DHL Supply Chain expands Chinese operation
Speaking at the opening of the company's new $25m hub in Shanghai, Victor Mok, executive vice president of DHL Supply Chain Greater China, said that China was now firmly established as one of the company's fastest growing markets - and that home demand, rather than exports, had prompted a re-think of capacity.
"Our customers are growing in China, which is one of the fastest-growing markets for DHL," Mok said.
DHL Supply Chain, which is the logistics arm of Deutsche Post AG's Deutsche Post DHL, currently operates four main transportation hubs in the country in Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Wuhan. Martin Rowe, vice president of DHL Supply Chain Greater China, told reporters that Fuzhou and Xi-An would be among the ten new hubs, but refused to give further details.
"China is not only a production base any more, and we are not just moving things for exporters, but also to support domestic consumption in China," he said.
