Sony's supply chain is key to success

Sony is looking to its supply chain to boost flagging sales and achieve its ambitious expansion targets in the emerging markets.

The Japanese-technology giant recently announced plans to diversify its supply chain by investing $1bn in Sharp's newest display factory.

And the company hopes the plans will help it double revenues in Brazil, Russia, India and China to Y2,000bn ($18.6bn) in three years.

The new plans would help the electronics and entertainment group maintain a "minimum acceptable" operating margin of five per cent, the company's chief executive, Sir Howard Stringer, said.
