The Week That Was
The week that was: 3 June 08 - 10 June 08
We've always got one eye on the future here at Procurement Leaders, so imagine our delight when we heard of Xeros - the washing machine of tomorrow. According to reports this week, the machine, which is the brainchild of students at the University of Leeds, uses less than two percent of the water and energy of a conventional washing machine. Plastic chips, not water, are used to remove dirt and stains from clothes, removing the need for a dryer. What's more the price tag is unlikely to leave you in spin - music to our ears.
Quote of the week - "It is disappointing to find the media can't seem to get the message straight," Chrysler CPO John Campi, blasts reports that the company plans to slash supplier prices over the next three years.
Few companies have benefited as richly from the increased focus on RFID than Zebra Technologies and, this week, in an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, the company's CEO, Anders Gustafsson, gave away the secret behind his companies success. "The whole world's a supply chain," he said somewhat cryptically (whilst making apologies to Shakespeare). Whatever he meant, it certainly seems to be working, and after recording sales of $868 million in 2007, Gustafsson appears to have earned his stripes.
